If you have ever considered doing the MyPoints activity where you download and install the Weather Channel toolbar (which is usually accompanied by a stand-alone program, as well) to get some extra points, you may wonder if it is worth all of the hassle. After all, getting points is great, but that only happens once. After that goes on, you are completely free to simply collect your points, and delete the program so that it does not use up your processor power, your bandwidth or your time. If it will only benefit you one time, there is definitely no need to keep the Weather Channel. But it can come in handy, depending on what you would be using it for.
For instance, the Yahoo! toolbar also has the current temperature and weather conditions in your area. If that is all you want to use a weather program for, then the Weather Channel is a seriously redundant piece of software. If, however, you want to plan out your week, you can make use of the Weather Channel’s more extended features (such as their forecasts, which can go for as much as a week into the future). In a case like that, you can use the Weather Channel as a great source of insight into how you can work outside and dress for the entire week.
Of course, you could always just go to a search engine and look up a weather forecast. But then, that does sort of negate the modern concept of having everything you could ever possibly want, right at your finger tips at all times. In this day and age, it is so much more convenient to have the temperature, weather condition and a simple button you can push to get your weekly forecasts right at the top of your browser, so you do not have to go looking for such things. While it isn’t much work for a forecast, easier is better.
