Using search engines to increase the effectiveness of your sports website is something that is fairly new. With the revolution of pay per click advertising, it’s important that the owners and operators of these sites get a better understanding of just how important it is to get your content into search engines. They are the way people go through the Internet and it is where content is driven. Being on the inside track will make your website more profitable. Being on the outside track will make your experience less profitable and much more frustrating. Here are some tips in order to get those search engines humming.

Search engines are much smarter than you think. Simply putting up content with a keyword will not work out for you. The search engines only pick up on content that is a minimum of 100 words. If you have 25 words about the NBA Finals, while that might seem like enough, it won’t be.

The key is to write content in there that will keep your reader engaged enough to keep coming back. For instance, if you are using a headline to talk about the allegations surrounding an athlete, then you need to let the reader know what those allegations were. You can tease, and should tease, to a bigger news story, but you have to give them at least what you promised them. This is about building your blog to be something more. People may not always remember your name when you are dishing them good stuff, but they will certainly remember your blog name if you are leading them on a wild goose chase.

Once you have them in your news feed, it’s a good time to equip you blog with hyperlinks. This will up the content and drive traffic the page. Make sure, of course, that the links are to stories that are also featured on your site. Otherwise, why bother driving traffic away?
